What is dissolved in Belmont water, and what it does to glass
Belmont runs both its own water supply and its own electricity distribution, which makes it one of the five municipal power addresses in the service area. On the water side the Charlotte hardness figure does not apply and the city report is the reference. On the electricity side the relevance is the same as in Monroe and Pineville: sustained voltage problems are hard on compressors and control boards, and where an address is losing electronics repeatedly across more than one appliance the supply is a legitimate question and the utility to ask is the city rather than Duke.
Establishing that matters here more than on any other appliance, because the single most useful thing we know about dishwashers in this region inverts the advice everybody has already read. Charlotte Water runs at 32 parts per million hardness, about 1.9 grains per gallon, with total dissolved solids at 59. That is soft. Every national troubleshooting article about cloudy glassware starts from limescale, and limescale is not what is happening.
Do one test before anything else. Soak a cloudy glass in white vinegar for a few minutes. If the cloudiness lifts, it is mineral film and it is a hard-water problem. If nothing changes, it is etching, which is not a deposit at all: it is material removed from the surface of the glass, and it is permanent.
The mechanism is documented by the appliance manufacturers themselves. Dishwasher detergent is built around polyphosphates and other softening agents because it is formulated assuming there is hardness to deal with. Put a full dose into water that is already soft and the softening component has nothing to act on, so the remaining alkalinity works on the next available surface. Glass is a silicate with metal ions in its surface, and it loses them.
The fix is to halve the detergent dose, and it is free. We will say that on the phone rather than booking a visit for it, because cloudy glassware regularly gets read as a dishwasher that has stopped cleaning and ends in a replaced appliance that does exactly the same thing.
Where the fault is genuinely mechanical in Belmont, the order is filter, drain hose loop and waste disposal before anyone quotes a drain pump, and an inlet valve quoted with a pressure reading, for the same reason it is on a washing machine.
The commercial position is the same in Belmont as it is at a Charlotte address, because the rate card on this site is not a Charlotte rate card. The diagnostic visit is $89 and it comes off the invoice in full when you approve the repair. Labour beyond that is $95 to $145 an hour. Nothing is added for the drive, and if the same fault returns after we have fixed it the return visit carries no fee at all.

What Belmont itself changes
The kitchens in Belmont
Belmont grew around nearly twenty textile mills built up to 1930, the villages that served them still stand and are still occupied, and there has been substantial new riverside and infill building over the last fifteen years. In the mill housing the recurring appliance constraint is not the kitchen and it is not the appliance. It is the electrical service. Those houses were built with a load expectation that would not cover a modern kitchen, they have been added to repeatedly since, and the result is a panel with no spare capacity and circuits carrying more than they were laid in for. That is the first thing to establish here, because it decides whether an appliance can be added at all.
Getting an appliance in and out
Split between the mill villages and the new riverside building. The village housing is small, close-set and original in its openings, so an appliance route has to be planned rather than assumed, and a full-depth refrigerator frequently will not make the turn from the front door into the kitchen. The newer riverside properties are modern in every respect and present none of that. Since the two are only streets apart, we ask rather than infer.
Permits and who is licensed
Swapping an appliance on an existing connection does not require a permit anywhere in this service area, and we will tell you that rather than adding a line for one nobody filed. What is regulated is the connection itself: new or altered wiring for a hard-wired appliance falls under the North Carolina electrical board, and anything on a gas supply line falls under the plumbing and heating board. Neither is appliance work and we hand both to the licensed trade. Gaston County reviews all trades across the county including inside Belmont. The city runs the electricity distribution, which is a separate matter from who reviews the wiring, and the two are easy to confuse.
